The class should divide up in to groups of 3 or 4. The mission is to take a sentence no longer than 8 words and develop a means of encrypting it. However, the first letter of the first word must be provided along with its ciphered version.
Example: Uncoded Sentence: "The sky is blue.", could be coded into "Sgd rjx hr aktd." But the first letter would have to be explained to be a T. How it was encrypted does not have to be explained, just what it is equivalent to.
The goal is to develop a creative way of encryption. After everyone is finished the sentences will be exchanged and other groups will see if they can decipher them.
Feel free to use any resource you can find, including the internet. Remember the effective use of encoding by the Spartans, manipulating the way the text looks on the page could be another form of encryption! Time permitting we will share them in class or over the board.
